As an HGV Driver, you will ensure the timely and professional delivery and collection of plant equipment to and from customers. This role requires excellent attention to detail, safe driving practices, and a commitment to customer service and health and safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver and collect plant equipment from customers, ensuring accurate completion of paperwork (including authorised signatures, noting damages, fuel levels, and correct plant numbers), using a tablet for on/off hires
- Start machines on-site when requested
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance and daily checks to ensure roadworthiness and safety in line with GAP procedures
- Verify plant against hire desk paperwork prior to delivery/collection
- Safely load and unload plant and equipment onto/from vehicles using correct strapping, chaining, and roping methods
- Communicate with Workshop Foreman when returning machines and notifying your Manager if any are damaged
- Ensure digital tachographs are used and downloaded in compliance with current legislation
- Comply with customer Health & Safety rules when on-site
- Keep the vehicle and workshop clean, organised, and tidy; assist with general workshop duties as required
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as directed by the Foreman or Depot Manager
- Communicate with customer/depot when out on site, assisting with a smooth, efficient operation
- Maintain compliance with Drivers' Hours Rules and Working Time Directive
- Ensure the vehicle is loaded within legal weight limits
Key Skills and/or Qualifications
- Full UK driving licence with Category C (HGV) entitlement essential
- Experience in plant delivery and collection preferred
- Knowledge of safe loading/unloading practices
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and maintain high standards of safety
- Good communication skills and customer service focus
- Driver CPC Training
- Digital Tacho card

The role would be a 42.5 hour working week, shift patterns usually 07:30-16:30 Monday to Friday but hours might vary slightly depending on the demand of customers.
