Brightwork are delighted to be supporting a key client as they continue through an exciting period of growth. Due to continued expansion, we are seeking an experienced Payroll Advisor to join their busy and supportive payroll team.

This opportunity would suit a payroll professional who enjoys the technical aspects of payroll processing, takes pride in delivering an accurate service, and is happy to share their knowledge and support more junior colleagues when required.

The Role

As a Payroll Advisor, your primary focus will be the accurate processing of payrolls for a varied client portfolio. You will also act as a knowledgeable point of contact within the team, helping to support Payroll Assistants and Analysts with day-to-day queries while ensuring payrolls are delivered accurately and on time.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Processing complex payrolls from start to finish across a varied client portfolio
  • Reviewing payroll outputs and ensuring payrolls are completed accurately and within agreed timescales
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and their professional advisors
  • Keeping up to date with payroll legislation and industry best practice
  • Assisting with payroll-related projects and process improvements
  • Reviewing and submitting BACS payments in line with audit requirements
  • Maintaining accurate client process manuals and payroll documentation
  • Supporting payroll system testing, upgrades and enhancements
  • Acting as a first point of contact for junior team members requiring day-to-day guidance
  • Sharing knowledge and helping to develop the skills of colleagues across the payroll team
  • Ensuring compliance with payroll legislation, internal controls and audit requirements

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous experience in a payroll position with responsibility for end-to-end payroll processing
  • Experience managing multiple payrolls and working to strict deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, compliance and statutory payments
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Strong communication and relationship-building abilities
  • A proactive approach to problem solving
  • Confidence supporting and guiding less experienced colleagues
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Essential experience using IRIS, STAR or BrightPay payroll software
  • Relevant payroll qualifications would be advantageous
