Shift Maintenance Engineer

Johnstone, Glasgow

Brightwork is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a leading manufacturer and supplier of self-adhesive labels, ticket, and tag materials to the UK and European labelling sector. Based in Johnstone, near Glasgow, our client supplies high-quality materials to printers and converters who produce finished labelling solutions for a diverse range of industries and end users.

As a business with a long-standing reputation for quality, innovation, and customer service, they are now seeking a skilled Shift Maintenance Engineer to join their established Engineering team.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and availability of production plant, machinery, and equipment across the site.

Working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, you will be responsible for both reactive and preventative maintenance activities, ensuring equipment downtime is minimised and production targets are consistently achieved.

This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served engineer with an electrical bias who enjoys a varied role and is comfortable working across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responding to and diagnosing equipment breakdowns in a timely manner.
  • Carrying out electrical and mechanical fault finding and repairs.
  • Maintaining and improving the reliability of production machinery and site equipment.
  • Completing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) activities in line with maintenance schedules.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant performance and reduce downtime.
  • Working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems and carrying out associated repairs and maintenance.
  • Ensuring all maintenance work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Accurately recording maintenance activities and reporting equipment issues.
  • Collaborating effectively with production and engineering colleagues to maintain operational efficiency.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A recognised engineering apprenticeship.
  • Time-served engineering experience with an electrical bias.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Previous maintenance experience within a manufacturing, production, or industrial environment.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • A proactive approach to maintenance and continuous improvement.

Working Hours

The position operates on a three-shift continuous rotation, averaging 39 hours and 40 minutes per week:

Night Shift

  • 10:00pm - 6:00am
  • Sunday night to Thursday night

Early Shift

  • 6:00am - 2:00pm
  • Monday to Friday

Back Shift

  • Monday to Thursday: 2:00pm - 10:00pm
  • Friday: 2:00pm - 7:00pm

Overtime opportunities are regularly available, providing holiday and absence cover within the Engineering Department, as well as supporting weekend preventative maintenance activities.
