The client
This is a first class opportunity for an experienced HSEQ Manager within a very well established, highly regarded Civils Construction company with to lead and manage companywide HSEQ systems, processes and procedures.
The role - HSEQ Manager - Civil Engineering / Construction
You will lead and manage the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) systems across civil engineering projects. You will ensure compliance with legislation, drive a positive safety culture, and support operational teams in delivering projects safely, sustainably, and to required quality standards.
You will have a broad range of duties and responsibilities including
- Leading and promoting a strong safety culture across all sites and offices
- Ensuring compliance with UK HSE legislation and industry best practices
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining H&S policies, procedures, and risk management systems
- Carrying out site audits, inspections, and accident investigations
- Advising management and site teams on risk mitigation and safe working practices
- Monitoring incident trends and produce reports with corrective actions
- Ensuring environmental compliance across all civil engineering activities
- Developing and implementing environmental management systems (ISO 14001)
- Managing environmental risk assessments and sustainability initiatives
- Liaising with regulators and external stakeholders as required
- Ensuring project delivery meets client specifications and industry standards
- Conducting internal audits and support external accreditation audits
- Driving continuous improvement across project delivery processes
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a SHEQ Manager role within civil engineering projects
- Strong knowledge of UK HSEQ legislation and CDM Regulations
- Experience managing ISO systems (9001, 14001, 45001)
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) – essential
- Internal/Lead Auditor qualification preferred
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to influence and drive behavioural change on site
This position will be based on 5 day a week, Monday - Thursday 8am - 5pm and Friday 8am - 4pm, in office post although you will be visiting construction sites across multiple Scottish locations as required.
