Our People

Uniquely as a recruitment business we have decided to adopt an alternative model of corporate governance to give Brightwork greater focus and long term perspective.

We have a two-tier board with a clear separation of duties between management and supervisory functions.

Supervisory board

Is responsible for overseeing and appointing members of the Executive board and for the overall strategic direction of the company. It comprises:

Brian Williamson
An entrepreneur with the experience of both a fast-advancing managerial career in industry and of his own high growth businesses, Brian is now in his 33rd year of running companies at Board level. He was involved in the MBO which lead to the formation of Brightwork and has been chairman since 2006. He lists his main interest as playing golf at Loch Lomond where he is a member.
Anthony Knight
Main Board Director
Anthony is one of Brightwork’s co-founders. An experienced recruitment professional he was, along with fellow MBO member Charles Turner, instrumental in the growth of the business before deciding to step down to pursue other interests. Anthony likes to travel in addition to having a keen interest in football and cricket.
Charles Turner
Main Board Director
Charles is one of Brightwork’s co-founders. He brings over 25 years experience across a broad range of senior roles in the recruitment sector and together with Anthony Knight was responsible for the rapid growth of the business before deciding to step aside from the day-to-day management of the business. In his spare time Charles is a fundraiser for Maggie’s Centres.
Derek May
Chief Executive Officer
A chartered management accountant, Derek held a number of roles in Brightwork before becoming CEO in April 2015. Since then he has been leading on a number of major changes to drive business growth. Despite living in Lanarkshire, he admits to supporting Aberdeen football club.
Executive board

Focuses on the day-to-day management of the business and comprises:

Derek May
Chief Executive Officer
In addition to being a member of the Supervisory Board, Derek also leads the Executive Board and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the company. Fond of a sporting analogy, he lists Sir Alex Ferguson as the business leader he most admires.
Karen Bathie
With over 15 years in recruitment and fast tracked into Management Karen has a proven ability to drive start up ventures from zero to highly successful business units. Family time and activities are important to Karen who also enjoys her position on the Board of Directors for a local charity providing support to children and families.
Brian Cairney
With more than 27 years’ experience in the industry, Brian is highly respected for the excellent customer service he and his team provide. Teamwork features strongly in his spare time too, through his many coaching and fundraising activities for young people (football) and the Maggie’s Centres.
Alison French
With a degree in molecular genetics, Alison jokes that if she can’t find clients the perfect candidate she can always try to genetically engineer one. That she has never been asked to is testament to her expertise, acquired over 14 years in the industry. When she’s not running Brightwork’s largest division, she enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
Hazel Neill
Hazel has been with Qualitylink since 1990, developing what was a temporary side of the business into the thriving, core division that it is today. A lover of good food and wine herself, she has an eye for detail that her colleagues joke borders on the obsessive or, as she says, comes simply from being an excellent SVQ/NVQ assessor and internal verifier.
Linda Skeen
Linda has more than 20 years’ experience of recruiting for the industrial sector working with high profile clients across Scotland when she’s not exercising her mental skills to fill diverse roles she enjoys keeping fit, hill walking, running marathons and has a keen interest in interior design.
Shan Saba
One of three co-founders of subsidiary company BWSR, Shan is Business Development Director for the wider Brightwork Group. An HR management graduate, his role is to foster new client relationships. When he’s not wooing clients with his ‘service with a smile’, he likes to keep fit by running, cycling or enjoying a nostalgic bounce on a trampoline.
